Edzo Bindels is a principal and partner of West 8. Mr. Bindels graduated from Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands, as an Urban Designer. After working at various architectural offices and publishing successful works and articles he joined West 8 in 1995 and was named co-principle in 1999.
In 2000 Mr. Bindels received the Rotterdam-Maaskant Prize for Young Architects and published his book “4. Edzo Bindels, Ruurd Gietema, Henk Hartzema, Arjan Klok”. He also took on a teaching position at the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam and Rotterdam and at the Delft University of Technology.
At West 8 Mr. Bindels has led a number of complex large scale landscape urban master plan projects and winning design entries such as Madrid RIO in Madrid and Playa de Palma in Mallorca, Spain. Other important projects include the River City Gothenburg project in Sweden and within the Netherlands, the master plan for Vathorst - a residential area in Amersfoort, the Maastricht A2 freeway tunneling - Groene Loper, Leerpark in Dordrecht, Nieuw Crooswijk in Rotterdam and urban design of Den Helder city, Rio Cali Park in Colombia and New Holland in St. Petersburg. Most recently Mr. Bindels has been leading the team with Adriaan Geuze for the Revitalization of the Coolsingel and surrounding public realm at Rotterdam's city centre.
