Adriaan Geuze Receives ULI Netherlands Leadership Award for Outstanding Urban (re)Development

On May 22, Adriaan Geuze was announced as the winner of the ULI Netherlands Leadership Award for Outstanding Urban (re)Development. Geuze received the award at the ULI Netherlands Annual Conference which took place in Rotterdam. Geuze is the third winner of the award, with Peter van der Gugten, Director of Heijmans and Wienke Bodewes as two his predecessors.

This year’s award jury was chaired by Pieter Hendrikse (JLL) and consisted of Wienke Bodewes (winner in 2018), Bianca Seekles (ERA Contour), Jos Melchers (Municipality of Rotterdam), Cilly Jansen (Architectuur Lokaal), and Edwin Oostmeijer (Edwin Oostmeijer Projectontwikkeling). 

Geuze received a Ginkgo Tree, which he will plant in the Japanese garden of West 8's Máximapark in Leidsche Rijn, Utrecht.

Chairman Pieter Hendrikse commented: "We are dealing with major and urgent spatial planning challenges in the Netherlands in the fields of food & agriculture, infrastructure, climate change and housing demands. Our limited space is under pressure. Adriaan Geuze is offering us a perspective for the future and he willing to fight for that. He applies his deep knowledge of society to spatial issues. Together with his vision on urban planning, he continuously strives to create high-quality solutions. The projects of his office West 8 have been internationally praised for many years. Geuze has shaped the Dutch landscape with projects like Borneo Sporenburg in Amsterdam, Strijp-S in Eindhoven, Amersfoort in Vathorst, Coolsingel in Rotterdam and Máximapark in Leidsche Rijn, Utrecht.

Earlier ULI acknowledgments for West 8's work include the ULI Urban Open Space Global Award for Madrid Rio (2018), and the New York ULI’s Excellence in Mixed Use Development Award for Essex Crossing in New York City (2019). Recently, the Moscow 'My Street' program was announced as a finalist for the ULI Global Awards for Excellence. This project upgraded more than 200 public spaces across Moscow between 2015 and 2017. West 8 participated with multiple projects.
