The first images of the new design for the iconic Afsluitdijk have been released. This was done after Rijkswaterstaat's announcement that Levvel (a joint venture of Van Oord, BAM en Rebel) was awarded the commission to reinforce the dike.
Longwood Main Fountain Garden winner of 17th Palladio Award
Longwood's Main Fountain Garden is crowned as winning project in the category of “Public Spaces: Parks Plazas Gardens Streetscapes” of the 17th annual Palladio Design Awards, the only US national awards that recognize excellence in traditional architecture, interior design, landscape architecture and traditional craftsmanship.
Amsterdam Stadionplein by West 8 renamed as 'Johan Cruijffplein'
After years of tug-of-war about what was to come on this empty square, the site of the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam Zuid, is now being transformed into a lively new city square for Amsterdam: Stadionplein, a design by West 8 in collaboration with Municipality of Amsterdam Southern District. It will be renamed as 'Johan Cruijffplein', after a born-and-bred Amsterdammer, famous footballer and coach Johan Cruijff.
Construction update on Toronto Harbour Landing
Construction of the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal and the Harbour Square Park in Toronto is currently under way. The new verdant area will be a counterbalance to urban life and a welcoming gateway to the Toronto Islands.

First section of Waterfront Promenade WKCD Art Park opens
After 1,5 years of construction, the first section of the waterfront promenade at the West Kowloon Cultural District Art Park in Hong Kong is since late Janurary 2018, the Chinese New Year period, open to public. Many visitors have come during the Chinese holiday season to watch the sunset, run, cycle, and walk while enjoying picture-perfect views.

Opening of Proveniersplein at Rotterdam Central Station
On January 27, the Proveniersplein with its bridges north of the Rotterdam Central Station was festively opened. The ceremony led Councilman Robert Simons. The completion of the square represents the conclusion of the bigger endeavor of the Rotterdam Central Station; a project by Team CS. Team CS is a cooperation between Benthem Crouwel Architects, MVSA Meyer en Van Schooten Architects, and West 8.

Award Ceremony Hispania Nostra Prize 2016 for Madrid Rio
In 2016 Madrid Rio was awarded the Hispania Nostra Prize in the category: Prize for Heritage Conservation as a factor of economic and social development. The award ceremony where Her Majesty Queen Sofia will preside over, will take place on 25 Jan 2018 in the Monastery of San Juan in Burgos.

Tverskaya Zastava Square, Moscow 'My Street' program completed
In collaboration with Strelka KB, part of West 8's involvement in the Moscow City's 'My Street' program, the revitalisation of Tverskaya Zastava Square and surrounding area is completed with great success. To date, the upgraded historical station area has made its glorious comeback.
West 8 wins design competition for Hengelo's Market Square
On December 8, Bureau Hengelo announced that West 8 has won the design competition for the Hengelo market square. With a majority of 68% of the votes, the public opted for West 8’s design, disqualifying the two other competitors Mecanoo and IAA Architecten.
